6 Tips for Complete Grow Room Control - Happy Hydro
  1. Start with a clean grow room

The first step to keeping your grow room smelling fresh is to start with a clean grow room. This means regularly cleaning your floors, walls, and ceilings. It also means keeping your plants well-groomed and free of dead leaves and debris. A clean grow room will not only smell better, but it will also be less likely to harbor mold and mildew, which can cause serious odor problems.

The porous nature of drywall and concrete allow for diseases and/or pests to hide in between grows or when cleaning chemicals come out. Panda or poly film, black on one side, white on the other, works wonders at helping convert an old closet or room enabling you to keep it clean.

  1. Use an airtight grow room

Another important step in controlling grow room odors is to make sure your grow room is airtight. This means sealing all cracks and gaps around doors and windows, and using an airtight door seal if possible. It also means using airtight containers for storing your plants and equipment. An airtight grow room will prevent odors from escaping and will keep your grow space fresher smelling.

  1. Use an exhaust fan

An exhaust fan is a must for any grow room, regardless of size. An exhaust fan will help to remove odorous air from your grow space and replace it with fresh air from outside. The key to using an exhaust fan effectively is to ensure that the fan is the proper size for your grow room and that it is properly vented to the outside.

You can exhaust the grow room air outside of your tent, but still inside your house, allowing you to skip the construction phase of this and still help your plants by exchanging the air in your tent with fresh air, replenishing the CO2 for them to thrive.

  1. Use carbon filters

Carbon filters are another effective way to remove odors from your grow room. Carbon filters work by adsorbing odor-causing molecules onto their surface. When selecting a carbon filter for your grow room, be sure to choose one that is the proper size for the space and that has a high adsorption capacity. Additionally, be sure to change your carbon filter regularly to ensure optimal performance.

These carbon filters attach to an inline exhaust fan, mentioned above. They even have all-in-one ventilation kits for your grow room that allow you to set temperature and humidity thresholds, so when your temp gets too hot inside the room, it turns on the fan to push that air outside and replace it with new, fresh, hopefully-cooler, air.

  1. Use an air purifier

An air purifier can be a great way to remove odors from your grow room. Air purifiers work by trapping airborne particles, including odor-causing molecules, in a filter or on a plate. Some air purifiers also use activated carbon filters, which are particularly effective at removing odors. When choosing an air purifier for your grow room, be sure to select one that is the proper size for the space and that has filters that can be easily replaced.

  1. Ozone Generators

Ozone generators are available in portable and inline models. Portable units are small and can be plugged into an outlet. Inline units must be installed in your ductwork. Both types of ozone generators need to be used with a fan to circulate the ozone throughout the grow room.

Ozone generators are effective at controlling odors, but they can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Ozone is a lung irritant and can be harmful to humans and animals. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when using an ozone generator.
