So, you want prolific yields and pungent, sticky flowers, and you've decided to accomplish this through natural soil amendment? Congrats!
Whether you need to learn how to add nutrients to new soil, or you're looking to re-amend your existing soil, you are on your way to growing natural, more affordable, and "mother-nature approved" marijuana.
But how much Gaia Green plant food do you need, when should you top-dress your soil, and what are the best products for each stage of cannabis growth?
This article will explore the benefits of using natural potting amendments and how to use Gaia Green's products in your home-cultivation project.
Why Choose Gaia Green?
Gaia Green soil amendments give you a simple OMRI Organic Certified way of providing the nutrients your plants need to produce the highest quality and biggest yields from your crops (no chemicals or complicated fertilizers necessary).
Gaia Green amendments are designed to increase the microbial activity in your soil to create living soil that nourishes thriving plants.
Increasing biological activity in the soil is highly beneficial to your plant's health, strength, and nutrient uptake, which means the quality and quantity of cannabis increases. Gaia Greens' performance-driven products have been proven successful in numerous trials that indicated plants increased resistance to drought and general stress (Not to mention the cost savings benefits of not having to use liquid bottled nutrients).
By feeding your plants with high-quality organic amendments, you will create an environment for optimal plant performance. Gaia Green is dedicated to social and environmental practices based upon ecological responsibility, another great reason we love to recommend this conscious company.
How to Amend Soil for Vibrant Cannabis Growth (Naturally)
First, please note—only amend your soil if you are reusing a medium or working with a medium that doesn't contain plant nutrients. These amounts are to be used with Gaia Green Organic dry amendments only.
While non-toxic, we recommend wearing a protective mask and gloves while handling Gaia Green products. Be sure to avoid contact with eyes and skin.
If you are growing in soil that has been previously amended or unsure of the existing nutrient levels in your soil, start by doing a soil test before adding any amendments.
Re-Amending Your Growing Medium
When you first start growing, the costs can add up quickly—and one of those expenses is soil. However, re-amending your growing medium using Gaia Green is a great way to help save you some money.
Soil prices range widely, but generally, you could expect to pay $40-50 USD. That might not seem like a huge cost, but buying fresh soil/coco coir can undoubtedly add up every new grow. If you were to re-amend that medium three times, you'd be saving $120-150.
Instead, you could use this money to buy seeds, a light upgrade, or a new grow tent.
Before reusing and amending your medium, I recommend removing any big masses of roots in the soil or coco coir. The smaller roots left behind will break down into nutrients for your plants, so don't worry about getting all of them.
You'll also want to break up any clumps in the medium for a smoother mixture. You may want to encourage better drainage by including around 10% - 15% perlite in the growing medium.
