Orius insidiosus, commonly known as the Minute Pirate Bug, is a fast-moving, generalist predator widely used in greenhouses, nurseries, field crops, orchards, and indoor grow systems. Highly effective against thrips, especially adults, Orius also targets spider mites, aphids, whiteflies, and many other soft-bodied pests. With a rapid 3–4 week lifecycle, high mobility, and the ability to overwinter in suitable environments, Orius provides reliable, chemical-free pest suppression.
How It Works
Adult females lay eggs inside plant tissue, which hatch in 4–5 days. Nymphs develop into adults within 7–10 days, and both life stages feed aggressively on soft-bodied pests. Using piercing mouthparts (rostrum), Orius kills thrips, mites, and other insects—even when not actively feeding—making it a dependable control option in high-pressure infestations.

Quick Tips
✔ Excellent for rapid thrips suppression
✔ Establish early in crop cycle for best long-term results
✔ Pairs well with predatory mites for complete foliar coverage
✔ Predation is visible—thrips can be seen skewered on the rostrum
✘ Avoid release in extreme heat or bright sunlight
